Excellence Through Endeavour

Head Teacher's Welcome

Head Teacher's welcome

Welcome to our website. It is a great honour to be the Head Teacher of The Richmond upon Thames School (RTS).

RTS was established from a desire to do the ordinary differently and to serve its local community, two pillars which underpin our philosophy and vision.

The RTS Academy Trust was set up by Harlequins FC, Haymarket Media Group, Richmond Council, Richmond upon Thames College and Achieving for Children.

The core beliefs that drive the culture and ethos of our school are:

  • Aspirations matter
  • Hard work influences success
  • There is no substitute for exceptional teaching
  • Intelligence is not fixed
  • Parents/Carers make a difference
  • We need strong partnerships to succeed.

Our transition programme focuses on understanding each child’s strengths and needs. Our approach enables us to ensure no time is wasted and your child receives the right level of challenge from day one. Our core business is student achievement, and I believe that inspirational teaching, an engaging and challenging curriculum and a safe environment where children can take risks with their learning, result in all students thriving and realising their potential. Our curriculum is in many respects very traditional and focuses on the cornerstones of education, literacy and numeracy. Each student uses iPad technology in lessons and working closely with our partners, we provide additional opportunities in digital technology and communication, enterprise and sport and healthy lifestyles.

Our extended school day ensures all students can participate in a broad and exciting assortment of creative, musical, sporting, linguistic and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) opportunities. Our aim is for every child to leave RTS having achieved beyond what they ever thought was possible and ready to make a positive contribution to society. As Head Teacher, I focus on continually encouraging our dedicated and talented staff to develop their teaching, to feed their passion for education, to grow in responsibility, and like the students, strive for excellence.
