PSHE Education

Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education

Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PHSE) Education is an important and necessary part of all students' education. PSHE Education topics at RTS are guided by the Department for Education National Curriculum which specifies the teaching of drug education, financial education, relationships and sex education (RSE); and the importance of physical activity and diet for a healthy lifestyle.


The PSHE curriculum deepens knowledge and understanding of how to stay healthy, safe and prepare for life and work in modern Britain. The curriculum provides opportunities of learning that will improve the physical and psychosocial well-being of students. 

PSHE is taught in all years and follows a sequenced, spiral programme which builds on prior KS2 learning onto the next key stages. 

Students are taught:

  • About the meaning of safeguarding, the processes in school to keep them safe and how to keep safe outside of school

  • To explore issues through a moral and ethical lens, e.g.the impact of discrimination, bullying and knife crime

  • About maintaining a healthy body and a healthy mind alongside the misconceptions and attitudes towards mental health.

  • To recognise the difference between healthy and coercive relationships through RSE and to understand what consent in relationships means

  • To explore future pathways for further education and careers; and

  • About British Values and the responsibilities of being a good citizen

Extended Learning

  • Regular workshops led by professional and engaging organisations exploring issues such as consent and healthy relationships and online safety

  • Opportunities to attend local and national educational trips and visits; and 

  • To take PSHE Education linked learning further at GCSE level - GCSE Citizenship
